Reception
At release
- Reviews were generally positive; Metacritic gave an average of 69 out of 100 based on 20 reviews
- AllMusic (David Jeffries): called the album a delayed dank disco triumph
- Consequence (Brian Josephs): said the album is well-intentioned but the listener is aware they are at the party only because Snoop invited them
- Los Angeles Times (August Brown): said few 90s rappers could settle into this sound credibly, but Snoop is an excellent student of his formative era
- The Guardian (Kate Hutchinson): called it a high five of an album made for hydraulic cars and throbbing dancefloors
- HipHopDX (Kellan Miller): said Snoop and Charlie Wilson play off each other's energy, and that the diminished returns of the album come from poor execution
- NME (Phil Hebblethwaite): noted Snoop takes a surprising back seat, singing low in the mix and seldom rapping
- PopMatters (Jonathan Frahm): called it another consistent release from Snoop
- XXL (Roger Krastz): called it a fun and enjoyable listen from start to finish
- Pitchfork (Julian Kimble): said the album is strong musically but wondered what a full-length after R&G a decade earlier would have been like
- Rolling Stone (Brittany Spanos): described it as a pleasant stroll down memory lane
- Billboard (Kris Ex): noted the album is a quick listen under 45 minutes, with laid-back tracks perhaps too much so
